The Club
Originally established in 1972, the Campbell River Tennis Club has been at its Willow Point Park (Penfield Rd and Parkway Rd) location since 1987. The Club operates during the outdoor tennis season which usually runs from the beginning of April to the end of September. Campbell River is one of BC's top tourist destinations and serves as a major regional centre to Northern Vancouver Island. The extensive Campbell River coastline, protected harbour, inland lakes and rivers, warm temperate climate and proximity to Mount Washington and the Strathcona nature preserve, gives Campbell River a first class international reputation as the "Salmon Fishing Capital of the World" renowned for some of Canada's finest natural landscapes and hospitality. The Campbell River Tennis Club is an active part of this community and operates in cooperation with the District of Campbell River and Campbell River Parks and Recreation. The Club has over 100 adult and junior members and welcomes guest players.
Facility
The Club has access to four hardcourts, two of which are lit for evening play. The adjacent Willow Point Sportsplex houses a gymnasium, four squash courts (two are convertible to racquetball courts), Food and Beverage concession and changerooms with showers.
Programs
The Campbell River Tennis Club provides Adult and Junior instructional programs which are coached by Sid Shook, Al Folster and Chris Hasek-Watt. The Junior program runs Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings (8:00am to 10:30am) during the months of May, June and July. Tennis Tip Tuesdays for Adults run for eight consecutive weeks starting in May. The Club has organized play on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturdays (10:30am to 1:00pm) beginning in May and running through to the end of September. Early in May the club has its Opening Day Mixer which is open to all Campbell River residents. The club plays host to a number of tournaments: North Island Masters (June), Junior (July), North Island Open (July), Doubles and Singles Club tournament (September) and the Mixed Doubles Wind-Up Club tournament (September). Social events during the year include: Twoonie Nights for Charity, Woody Tournament, Men's Beer Nights and Women's Wine Nights. Campbell River Tennis Club also fields Men's and Women's teams in both the "A" and "B" divisions of the North Island League, which includes teams from Comox, Courtenay, Powell River, Qualicum-Parksville and Port Alberni.
